Yes! Our shampoo creates a rich lather and cleans effectively without sulfates. Because the formula is aloe-based, it’s important to fully wet the hair before applying.
We use gentle, plant-based cleansers—including saponified oils and Quillaja Saponaria—to create a satisfying lather that removes dirt and excess oil without stripping the hair’s natural moisture. Start with a small amount and add more water as you lather for best results.
How do I know which shampoo is best for me?
All of our shampoos share the same gentle, aloe-based cleansing formula, so they’re suitable for all hair types. The difference is in the essential oil blends, which add fragrance and offer additional benefits.
Choose based on your hair goal or preferred scent:
- Rosemary Mint Vanilla → Best for oily hair, scalp buildup, or if you want a more clarifying cleanse
- Citrus Lavender → Best for everyday hydration and balance
- Cherry Almond → Best for smoothing frizz and supporting curly or textured hair
- Unscented → Best for sensitive scalps or if you prefer a fragrance-free formula
Is it safe for color-treated or chemically processed hair?
Yes. Our shampoos are sulfate-free, paraben-free, and made with gentle, plant-based ingredients, making them a great option for color-treated or chemically processed hair. For best color longevity, we recommend Citrus Lavender, Cherry Almond, or Unscented shampoo and Conditioner. Rosemary Mint Vanilla provides a more clarifying cleanse and may cause color to fade slightly faster, though it is still color-safe. We recommend shampooing every other day or 3 times a week.
Does your shampoo work for curly hair?
Yes! Our aloe-based formulas gently cleanse without stripping away the natural oils that help keep curls healthy, hydrated, and defined. Many customers with curly hair pair our shampoo with our Deep Conditioner for added moisture and nourishment.
How long does a bottle last?
On average, customers report that a 16 oz bottle of shampoo lasts 4–6 months, depending on hair length, thickness, and washing frequency. Because our formulas are concentrated, a little goes a long way.
Does this work for dandruff?
While our shampoo is not a medicated dandruff treatment, many customers find that it helps support a healthier scalp. Rosemary Mint Vanilla contains rosemary essential oil, while Citrus Lavender contains lavender essential oil—both known for their scalp-soothing benefits. Many customers alternate between Plaine Products and a medicated dandruff shampoo to reduce plastic waste while maintaining their scalp care routine.
Is it safe for pregnancy and infants?
Yes. Our formulas are made with plant-based, toxin-free ingredients and are safe for the whole family. For pregnancy, babies, and anyone with sensitivities, we recommend our Unscented collection. Is your shampoo tear free?
Yes. Our shampoos are made without harsh detergents and are formulated to be gentle on both hair and scalp. While we always recommend avoiding direct contact with the eyes, many families choose our shampoo for children because of its gentle, plant-based ingredients.
Is there a transition period when switching to a natural shampoo?
Some people experience a short adjustment period when switching from conventional hair care products. During this time, your scalp may rebalance as buildup from previous products is washed away. Most customers find that their hair adjusts within a few washes and feels healthy, clean, and balanced.
