How To Navigate Dry Skin in the Winter

How To Navigate Dry Skin in the Winter

Feeling dry inside and out? Winter doesn’t just bring cold weather, it brings dry skin, airways, and joint pain. Winter is characterized by low humidity both indoors and out which causes moisture to evaporate from the skin. Because cold air holds less moisture and indoor heating reduces humidity, the body is stripped of natural oils. This means flaky, itchy skin and potential flair ups of eczema. It’s the perfect storm for people that struggle with skin problems!

Plaine Products wants to see your skin shine in the summer AND the winter! We thought we would make some suggestions to help your skin fight back against the harsh weather we are all feeling right now. While taking a hot shower is tempting on a cold day, our first recommendation is taking shorter lukewarm showers because hot water can strip away the skin’s natural, protective oils and causes moisture to be lost. Try switching to richer, hydrating products and using gentle, non-foaming cleansers. We recommend a regimen using our aloe-based hand wash, body wash, body lotion and beauty oilAloe is great for winter skin because it provides lightweight hydration that is absorbed quickly without feeling greasy.  It binds moisture to the skin while creating a barrier that prevents water loss. As a bonus, it contains soothing anti-inflammatory compounds that heal, calm and reduce itchiness. Since many of our other ingredients are also hydrating and contain antioxidants, you will find them in many of our products.

Some of these ingredients include the following:

·       Green Tea Seed Oil which contains oleic acid and linoleic acid as well as natural antioxidants, such as vitamin E and polyphenols.

·       Shea butter has a deep moisturizer effect and is rich in essential vitamins, antioxidants and fatty acids, including vitamins A and E.

·       Sunflower Seed Oil reduces inflammation and helps replenish and strengthen the skin’s natural barrier.

·       Glycerin is a natural moisturizer that helps maintain the skin’s natural barrier and has hydrating and healing properties.

·       Vitamin E is known as a powerful antioxidant, protecting the skin’s natural barrier from free-radicals and helping to retain moisture.

·       Lavender is highly hydrating and soothing. It helps restore the skin's moisture balance, reduces inflammation, and acts as a gentle moisturizer.

Using our moisturizing body wash in the shower and our lotion and beauty oil immediately following can reduce drying.  The Citrus Lavender and Unscented Lines are our most hydrating products.  Our Beauty Oil is extra special because it not only moisturizes but it can soften, and help reduce the appearance of fine lines, scars, and wrinkles.  Professionals will also recommend that you use SPF, run a humidifier to maintain moisture in the air, hydrate your body by drinking plenty of water and eat a balanced diet.  We hope your holistic journey to healthier skin is a success!
