Are your products toxin-free and kid safe?
Yes, Mother Nature provides all of our ingredients. You’ll find we only include things that you can pronounce, no multiple-syllable chemicals. In addition to being vegan, non GMO, and organic, our products are free of sulfates, parabens, and toxins, making them safe for kids, much softer on colored hair than typical shampoo and recommended for those of us who have sensitive skin.

The pH range for the shampoo is 5 – 6.
The pH range for the purple shampoo is 5.5 – 6.5.
The pH range for the conditioner is 5.5 – 6.5.
The pH range for the deep conditioner is 4.0 – 6.0.

The pH for the face wash is 6.
The average pH of our lotions is 4.4.

Are your products Palm Oil free?

Yes, we are happy to say that Plaine Products is palm oil free! Not only do we not use it as an ingredient, but it is also not hidden inside other ingredients. Our vegetable glycerin is derived from coconut oil and our glyceryl mono stearate in the body lotion is palm oil free.

We’re happy to say our ingredients are gluten free, but we don’t advertise as such since our factory isn’t certified. We always recommend giving it a test with our travel size products first!

Yes! Our products are free of sulfates, parabens, and toxins, making them much softer on color-treated hair than most mainstream products.
Can I use your products on my pets?

Yes, all of our products are pet-safe but the Hair + Body Wash is the closest to a pet’s average skin pH. Our unscented line is especially good for pets with sensitive skin and contains no essential oils. We recommend diluting it first in order to achieve more suds and make the product last longer.

For most of our 16 oz products we have a travel size option that works really well as a sample. You’ll have the abillity to select the 2.5 oz travel size under those products in our shop. They are large enough to get more than a few uses to see if they work for you.

I think you’ll be surprised by how long the bottles last. Since our products are aloe-based, instead of water-based, they are highly concentrated so you don’t need much. The average use time seems to be 3-4 months, but some people say they are lasting 6 months or more.
All of our products have a shelf life of two years. On the bottom of each bottle there’s a lot number stamp that corresponds to the date of the most recent filling! You can check with us to get any dates you need.

Yes, most of our products do contain coconut oil in saponified form. Our vegetable glycerin is derived from coconut oil, instead of palm oil. Our face wash has coconut c8-16, which is a plant-based fatty alcohol, and our body lotions contain cetyl alcohol, which is a coconut-derived emulsifier.

Our 2.5 oz travel size products, including shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion and our facial line are all TSA compliant and can be used in carry on bags. The best part? You can refill them with our 16 oz bottles when you get home!
Our 16 oz bottles can travel in checked baggage. We recommend you use the caps they arrived with to seal them for travel and bring the pumps along separately.

Yes! There are three options: First, you can select a gift card in the shop and it will be emailed to the recipient – no waste at all.
Second, we have a new Gift Bundles section in the shop: options of pre-selected gifts ready to go!
Third, any Plaine Products can be turned into a gift. On the checkout page where you enter your payment information, there is an option at the top of the screen to ship to a different address. While you are checking out there’s also a notes section where you can let us know to include a card and what you’d like it to say!

Do you have any tips for making the switch to natural hair care products?
When you switch to natural hair care, there still can be a “transition” period because it doesn’t contain sulfates or silicones. It may take up to two weeks for hair to get used to sulfate-free ingredients. Here are some tips for the adjustment period:
- Wet your hair thoroughly before applying Plaine Products shampoo. This makes it easier to apply the shampoo and distribute it through your hair.
- Start with a small amount of shampoo. People expect sulfate-free shampoo to lather like a normal shampoo, and when it doesn’t, they apply even more shampoo to their hair. Although that rich lathery foam may not be there (sulfates are chemicals that create the foamy lather), the shampoo is still cleaning your hair.
- Apply more water, not more product, which will help distribute the shampoo through your hair. Plaine Products shampoos are concentrated and a little can go a long way.
- Shampoo a second time. Because sulfate-free shampoo lathers less, it can be more difficult to remove dirt and oil from your hair. Shampooing a second time helps remove the oil and dirt and clean your hair more thoroughly. You may notice more foamy lather the second time.
- Be sure to thoroughly rinse your hair to remove any residue so your hair doesn’t feel heavy.
- Follow up with sulfate-free Plaine Products conditioner to moisturize your hair. When applying conditioner, concentrate on hair ends. Applying conditioner at the roots can weigh down your hair and even cause your roots to appear greasy. Rinse well.

Yes! For curly hair, we recommend leaving the conditioner in for a few minutes while you shower to achieve soft, manageable hair. Or skip the shampoo altogether. You can also use the conditioner as a leave-in product on days when you need extra conditioning, or apply it to dry hair to help tame the mane. - Usually static occurs in the hair when there is no humidity or moisture in the air-you are correct, like in the winter months. If you live in a dry climate, perhaps a humidifier can help add moisture back into the air. One thing to try is a deep conditioning treatment. Shampoo your hair as usual and leave in the conditioner for five minutes before rinsing. This will add some extra moisture to your hair. A wooden or metal comb is better than plastic because plastic is non-conductive and causes static electricity when you comb your hair.
- Another option is product: Plaine Products Hair Repair is a light spray detangler. It replenishes moisture in the hair and can be used in place of a conditioner on fine hair, or after conditioning as a detangler for thick or curly hair. Simply spray on damp hair focusing on the ends and air dry or blow-dry as usual.
- If you prefer an oil, our Beauty Oil is another option. Lighter than Argan Oil, this oil is a hydrating blend of Helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, Vitis vinifera (grape) seed oil, squalene (olive derived), and Simmondsia Chinensis (jojoba) seed oil and can be applied to the ends of hair to tame flyaways, frizz, and bring the shape back to curls.

It’s the same price each time you order whether it’s the first time or a refill, although we do offer 10% off for subscriptions and free shipping for orders over $100.Our plan is for you to order a second bottle when the first is running low. When the first one is empty, just switch the pump over to the new bottle and we pay for the empty bottle to come back to us in the box the refill arrived in to be cleaned, refilled, and reused!

We pre-wash the bottles inside and out, then run them through a cycle in a commercial bottle washer and then a commercial dryer to ensure they are clean and sanitized for their next use!

What’s the best way to transfer the pump from one bottle to another?
Move the pump straight from your empty bottle to the refill bottle to reduce any chance of contamination by leaving it sitting in your shower and exposing it to air and water. If you’re switching the pump lid to a different product, its a good idea to pump water or rubbing alcohol through the pump to make sure it’s free of residue.

To open cut the shipping label along the bottom of the box. Then pull the two tabs out on either side of the labels to open the lid. When you ship the box back just place the return label over the shipping label to seal it closed.

If they don’t pick it up the first time, put a note on your mailbox, or on the box itself, letting them know it needs to be picked up.

We don’t provide boxes but you can use any box to ship the bottles back as long as it is not a USPS priority mail box. Try and package them with some paper so they do not get dented if you can!

When you recycle a plastic bottle only 10-20% of it can actually be successfully recycled, and even that portion is often downgraded into another lower form of single use plastic. Due to the downgrading process, recycling only delays plastic’s trip to the landfill, where it lasts for hundred or thousands of years. Meanwhile, the plastic waste that avoids the landfill has a high chance of ending up polluting our oceans thanks to its durability.
In contrast, our aluminum bottles can be recycled without any quality loss. In fact, recycling aluminum requires less energy than was needed to make the bottles in the first place.

It’s something we very much consider. It’s why we designed the bottles to last as long as possible and put smaller than normal pumps on. Researchers from the MIT Center for Transportation & Logistics found that traditional brick-and-mortar shoppers have more than double the environmental impact of online shoppers. What materials do you use to package your products for shipping?
We are currently working with the local office of Pratt Industries.Their award winning boxes are made from 100% recycled material and, because they are close to our headquarters, we’ve reduced our supply shipping footprint. Best of all, Pratt worked with us to develop boxes that eliminate the need for additional fill. They are strong enough to work for shipping refills and returning empty bottles to be refilled and reused. Because of their durability, we are able to use the boxes an average of five times before they are recycled. We use reinforced paper tape to seal the box to ensure they are able to be recycled when they can no longer be reused.

We want you to feel comfortable. If our 10oz or 16oz bottles don’t work out within 30 days you may return your products for a refund, but we ask that you cover the return shipping charges.* Sulfate-free products often require time for your hair to adjust. Check out our tips for making the switch to natural products above.

Plaine Products ships to all 50 states and Puerto Rico. For those orders it’s a $6 flat rate shipping fee and free shipping for orders $100+.
We do ship to Canada, however, we have to charge what it costs to ship there, including the duty added. The price you see in the cart is the actual shipping cost.

No, it’s actually better not to send back bottles that are too dented or damaged for us to reuse. Bottles with dents smaller than a dime are fine to return.
The good news is aluminum can be recycled without any quality loss, so they can be turned into other aluminum products an infinite number of times. When plastic is recycled it’s downgraded and can only be recycled once or twice.
